My name is JOHN, not BILLY! Thanks Randy.... Even newcomers to my space are calling me BILLY!

Welcome to Sirthinks' Portal!

This is a doorway to my REAL blog site. Some people have complained that they never know when I have a new entry on my blog at Sirthinks' Place

To keep everyone happy, I will make the extra effort of posting the text before the page break on my entries here. The link to the rest of the entry will take you to my actual blog.

Of course, this would not be necessary if more people would use RSS readers, or browsers like Firefox that incorporate feed bookmarking.

Damn - A Request to Write

Dammit Warmie! You come here and lay a guilt trip on me, and then splitsville. Alrighty then. I am going to write.

Warmie wants to hear about my adventures on the highway. I think she is hoping for something like the antics I was involved in a few years back when running groceries to southern Alberta. If you are interested in some of My Greatest Hits from yesteryear, here are a few GREAT writings…..

Philosophy on Life

…It is my resolution that I will not cause any disasters on highway 63. However, I am not resolved to not being involved in any. I will hold my lane from now on. I won’t drive on the shoulder to give way to ass-holes (I may use the shoulder for other trucks and buses). Should one of these morons decide to try to take me out, good luck ass-wipe. I outweigh and outsize you. I stand a 92% chance of living through the experience while yours is MUCH lower. To the moron’s who ride my ass end trying to save fuel, good luck. Moose can end up in my cab and hurt me. I see a moose in the road my decision is to save my life by jamming my brakes. If this means you drive into the back of my trailers and subsequently die, SO BE IT!! Bye Bye!

Blankety Blank Blank Blank

…Somehow I must break out of this blogger’s block. Thank the gods I don’t make my living writing here. I would soon go broke.

Of course I am suffering from driver’s block as well. I have an important road test coming up some time in the near future. No big deal, I’ve been through a dozen or more road tests over the years. The problem is, for this test everything has to be done PROPERLY!

Be Careful What you Wish For (Take 2)

…Edmonton was fully involved in a snow storm. Great! Off to work I go. For the next four days (five since I volunteered to work Saturday) I am going to be running turnpikes to Calgary (see picture at top of blog). All hooked up and ready to go, Chris and I head out to the highway. We are both operating units that are over 120 feet long and weigh in at over 130,000 pounds, 34 wheels, three articulation points this is the most fun you can have with your boots on!!

I chose to drive trucks why?

…Every Day is a Sunday drive. My ASS! How many people find themselves sitting in traffic on the Quesnell Bridge in Edmonton because some MORON couldn’t wait to jam his big assed dodge hemi in a hole not big enough for a bicycle, on their Sunday Drives?

Talking About: Lousy Drivers

…Two more deliveries like this and I am on my way to Lethbridge with not one, but TWO trailers. By now it is 3 pm and the animals have awoken and are hungry.

I have just finished re-reading all of these entries and having a great chuckle. After reading these, it is hard to imagine that I can come up with anything quite so witty. However, since Warmie asked, ever so nicely, I will fill everyone in on what I am up to these days……

Holy Cow - Its Been Awhile

Wow!  I haven't used spaces in quite some time.  Boy how things have changed around here.  As a matter of fact, I haven't blogged much at all, even at My Brain on Dieslel Fumes. It has been a hell of a few months.  For those of you who have been kind enough to keep up, I tool a sojourn from the transportation industry and went to work at Pizza Hut.  Then I got sick of that and returned to trucking.  In 2007 I was offered a position in management in the trucking industry and I accepted it.  Now I have turned a completely new page.

IMG00001

Since late February of this year I have been working on setting up my own logistics business.  I have leased a brand new Freightliner.  A contract has been signed locking my unit into 3 years of hauling General Motors freight from Edmonton to Winnipeg.  Things are going well, except for the normal "New Truck - Break-in" issues.  Now I am looking for investors to expand the business.  Of course, this will take time.

Well, it is time to barbecue a steak and whip up some taters and gravy.  I will post more lately.

Until then....  Keep on Truckin'

Somebody Stop Meh. On Second Thought…..

DON’T! Never in 44½ years have I been this excited for, of all things HOCKEY SEASON!

There is no way in a million years that CFL, NFL, NBA or any other sport could come close to drawing out the kid in me like Oilers hockey does. For most of my life I have been apathetic when it came to sports. Sports was something people who enjoyed the great outdoors did. Hockey, to me, was one more area in which I let my father down.

Not anymore! As I grow older I realize that sports is more for the fans. Partaking in sports is for the athletes. Enjoying sports is for the FANS! Without fans the sport is for naught. Indeed, the great kids who play the sports and make large dollars doing what they love deserve the attention that their hard work gleans for them. But without me they don’t get paid.

Sorry dad. I was never meant to be an all-star hockey player. I was meant to be an all-star fan. I am more proud of the fact that I, through all my short falls, I have been able to work hard and get to the point where I can spend thousands of dollars a year to sit in the arena, sip beer and scream at the top of my lungs, Let’s Go Oilers! I love hockey. I love the intricacies of the sport. I love the strategy, the speed, the skill and even the crap that comes out of Don Cherry’s mouth. In the past decade I love the fact that I no longer feel guilty for letting someone down. The arrival of sanity came when it became clear that, indeed, hockey is for me. It isn’t something I need to play, it is something I need to WATCH and SUPPORT! It is the essence of winter in Canada!

Sunday Morning Sex

It has been a busy week at work. It has been left to me to catch up on about 3 months worth of damage claims. Wow, what a chore that is.

At lunch and over a beer after work I have been scanning the newspapers and catching up on what’s new around town, the pronvince, the country and the world. There is a pile of newspaper clippings sitting next to my computer waiting to be blogged about. Some of them really make me angry, others just make me sick.

Oh yeah, and the Oilers are kicking some serious pre-season ass. They currently boast 4 out of five wins!! Let’s Go Oilers!

So, this weekend I will blog!! In the meantime, this cracked me up!!

Can the OIL keep it up?

Now there’s a title with several possible connotations!

oil-banner.bmp

How ’bout that. The first battle of Edmonton, albeit pre-season has resulted in an overtime win for the Oil! Let’s hope, for our sake that this season isn’t going to look like last season where Calgary is concerned. We beat them in their barn, they returned the favour in ours. Last night at the Pengrowth Saddledome was the first of two pre-season games in the battle of Alberta. I am hoping the boys can come to our barn and whip the snot out of Calgary at home. Read more…

Another Unilingual RANT

What is going on out there?

Today I went to Tim Horton’s to grab some lunch and my usual extra-large black coffee. All I wanted was Chili, 2 white buns and my damned coffee.

I stopped at the restaurant I usually go to when I am on my way to work since, unfortunately I was on my way to work. The line up was the usual length, but it was moving sooooo slowly today.

In front of me in the line there were 4 girls. When we finally made it to the counter, each of the four girls tried to order sandwich combos and various drinks. It took them over 15 minutes to order their meal. They had to place and replace their orders several times. Why? Because none of the 8 or nine people working spoke English. The person trying to translate for them didn’t even speak the language clearly enough for anyone to understand them.

What a week! To Cover or Not To Cover

Several things of no interest happened this week. J.D. Bixby did not win Canadian Idol. Zach was eliminated from the Big Brother 8 House, leaving my least favorite players in the runing for first and second places. The news was pretty much the same crap as usual.

The biggest story this week seemed to be the fighting between all three major political parties and Elections Canada, the governing body of all that is right and proper in electon procedures. What are they fighting about this time? Well, for once the political parties are in agreement on an issue. Contrary to the parties, EC has declared that conservative Muslim women are permitted to have their faces covered by Burkas or scarves while voting.

Happy fricken' Friday

Picture this: You are sitting in Second Cup at 8:30 in the morning. In comes a dude in business casual attire. He orders a large Mocha with whipped cream. Then he picks up the Edmonton Sun, sits in an easy chair by the fireplace and proceeds to sip his beverage and read the newspaper.

There he sits while you and your friend, the only other people in the cafe are having a quiet chat and watching the traffic go by on 137th Avenue.

Suddenly the silence is broken by almost uncontrollable laughing. You look up in wonder as you see this prim and proper businessman (they don’t know me… lol) splitting a gut laughing and almost spitting out his most recent mouthful of Mocha. You think he must be insane.

What do you suppose has caused this uproarious laughter?

BlueberryBeerLinis and Telus

Okay, I am drunk! I went for a beer after work. This is something that I do everyday. I alsways stop at Brewsters Castledowns for ONE beer after work. It relaxes me and allows me time to read the newspaper and wind down after a day at the old grind.

Today, however, I bumped into a friend of my sister’s at Brewsters. Being in the inside group at the bar he introduced me to the pleasure that is BlueberryBeerLinis. This concoction has Blueberry Beer with real blueberries floating in it. Added to it is berlini slushy mix. Woah!! GOOOOOOOOD! After a regular Original pint I devoured one of these beauties and now I am loaded. Here I sit, drunk, waiting for Chinese Food to arrive….

So where does Telus figure into this. Well let me tell you. It has been a horrendous day at work and Telus made it even worse.
